Lightning Strikes - Wagner Wins

McCumbee McAleer Racing delivered an outstanding performance this past weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, continuing its strong run in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup. The highlight came in Race 2, where Gresham Wagner — driving under the RAFA Racing Team by MMR banner — claimed a thrilling victory.

Wagner navigated multiple late-race restarts with precision and emerged on top after a fiercely competitive battle, showcasing his trademark race craft and composure. Wagner was in the right place at the right time Sunday at CTMP, claiming another MX-5 Cup victory thanks to poor weather moving in mid-race.

In Race 1, Nate Cicero impressed for MMR, qualifying on the front row and finishing fourth after consistently running in the lead pack. His pace and maturity continue to be a bright spot in the team’s campaign.

The win marked Wagner’s second victory of the 2025 season; it was also a major boost for McCumbee McAleer Racing, which has solidified itself as one of the premier teams in the paddock through consistent results and strong driver development.

““It’s been a great opportunity to race in MX-5 Cup again with RAFA Racing Team and MMR. Since I’m jumping in part-time, getting the standout results is really the primary goal, and this weekend was about as good as it could get.

For myself, it was great to bring home another win, but I’m more excited to get RAFA Racing Team their first win in the series, and bring home a 1-2-3 in partnership with MMR. I’m not sure if I’ll be behind the wheel the rest of the year, but I’d love to try to do it again in the 2 remaining rounds of the season,” said Wagner in post-race comments

With only a few rounds remaining in the season and the $250,000 championship prize in sight, MMR heads into August’s races at VIR with momentum and confidence.

Wagner will be back on track July 18 through 20 at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, VA. He’ll be racing in the Pirelli GT4 America championship.

McCumbee McAleer Racing will race the trifecta next at VIR on August 22 through 24. MMR will compete in the Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup, the Ford Mustang Challenge, and the Michelin Pilot Challenge, with ECSM driver-client Sam Paley and Jenson Altzman.
